The rain was deafening.

Description

He made it a point to get back to Baker Street as quickly as his aching legs would take him and his brain could lead and encourage them. He soon found himself rushing under the cover of the bush that concealed 221 1/2B and shook some water off of himself automatically, looking out to the pouring rain as a flash of lightening illuminated the drops for no more than two seconds, closely followed by a roll of thunder. He took a moment to catch his breath and then turned to the door with an eager penchant for getting on the other side of it. It was opened soon enough, but there was no indication that he was going to move forward for a moment or two. He stood just outside of the flat for a little while, looking in and listening to the echoes of harshly-pounding rain and thunder the room filled with. He stepped inside with a jolt as a particularly harsh clap of thunder sounded, and the rough, cold noises of the storm stopped abruptly as he shut the door. He sighed one long as he leaned against the wooden thing.

It was now very quiet and still around him, despite the storm raging outdoors, and he felt very grateful to the fire for staying alive and bright, however unusual it was that it was even still going six hours after he'd left. He was soaked to the bone and further, and also soaked were the contract papers he'd spent all night trying to salvage. His deerstalker had somehow managed to stay atop his head through all the excitement, if just barely, and it showed; it was now slumping over his face and dripping wet. He didn't have even the remotest thought of taking off his wet clothes, instead pushing himself away from the door and dejectedly sopping over to his armchair. At the foot of this sat his Stradivarius, forgotten in the earlier rush of the evening. He picked the instrument up carefully, however he did not take to mind that his fur was getting the wood wet. He extracted the papers from his exceedingly damp coat-pockets and glanced at them with half-lidded, uninterested eyes. Completely soaked, completely washed of all evidence, and therefore completely useless. He dropped them onto the rug and crawled into his stately yet comfortable red chair, not thinking about his current wetliness in the least. He brought the violin to rest in his lap and began plucking the worn strings softly, thoughtfully. He absentminedly thought that they would do the better for changing, but his thoughts were not distracted by his surroundings for long. However cold and tired he was, his heart was still racing and the recent events still channeling through his mind in detail, and neither were going to be leaving him any time soon. That dratted rat had somehow been able to slip through his grasp at the last possible moment, for a third time. And for the mouse detective, that was a crushingly heavy blow. His eyes shut wearily as his mind rushed through the previous six hours of chase that had, again, ended in failure. The last he saw of Ratigan was a smug grin; and with a cackle of triumph, he'd verily disappeared before Basil's eyes. The mouse lowered his head as he thought, half-concentrating on the position and velocity of his fingers and the sound they brought into the otherwise silent room. The speed increased steadily, as his mind already set to work thinking of where the criminal mastermind had disappeared to and how he was to thwart his plans, for sure, this time. The growing strength and speed with which the strings were plucked didn't hold out for long, and the A finally snapped, ringing dully into the air and prompting Basil to throw the instrument to the ground and instead turn to the misused medicine that still sat on the sidetable.

Felt like a slight backstory might be in order. I was tired when I first wrote it, but it's been fixed, heh.
This was done in one day, from the idea popping into my head in the car to what it is now. Only one day. A first for me. I think it's also my best with photoshop yet, so it's indeed strange for those two things to be together.
Also, Basil's chair is kind of closer to the fireplace and somewhat farther back, different from in the movie. The stuff on the mantlepiece is rearranged as well. I guess Basil sometimes moves things around.

Aaaanother edit, this time lines.
